How to get to rue Mouffetard Paris

Being centrally located within Paris it is each to reach the street and indeed to go from la Mouffe to anywhere else in the city.

From Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

From CDG airport our street is about 30km, and an easy route by car. Follow signs for the city which will take you on the A3 route as far as the edge of the city, and from there towards Ivry-sur-Seine.

After taking the E50 ring road as far as there it will be a turning north along Avenue de la Porte d'Italie which leads you into the city.

Alternatively there are good ways to get from the airport to the city via public transport, and of course these mean you don't have to find somewhere to park a car here which is very hard indeed for a tourist.

Train

At the airport there is a station of the "RER", which is the subourban train system of Paris, on the Blue or "B" line.

This line runs through the center of the city and stops at the Gare du Nord, where cooincidentally you can take the Eurostar to London.

This only works between about 5AM and midnight as after that the trains stop. In fact the last RER B train out of the CDG terminals leaves just before midnight so get there early to be ensure you catch it if you are on a late arriving flight.

Tickets are a little less than 10 Euros for one-way ticket into the city.

The trip to Gare du Nord takes about 35 minutes, and 10 minutes left if it is one of the express trains.

From Paris Orly Airport

The airport at Orly, strictly Aéroport de Paris-Orly, was once the main airport of Paris but is now secondary to CDG. However many flights from Europe and elsewhere in France still arrive here.

It is possible to go from Orly to Paris using RER B line, but also there is a tramline known as T7.

There are a range of RATP busses available which run from the office, including the direct Airport Orlybus which goes to Denfert Rouchereau which is in the 14th.  From that you can take the green M6 metro line as far as Place d'Atalie, then the M7 northwards two stops to Censier. From there it is a short walk to the southen end of rue Mouffetard.

From Île de la Cité / Notre-Dame Cathedral

It's just 15 minutes stroll from the "center" of the city which is just outside the cathedral of Notre-Dame on the island "Ile de la Cite" to the northern end of rue Mouffetard. It is so close that it is not worth taking public transport, although bus route 27 if caught at Pont St Michel - Quai des Orfevres does go in roughly the right direction and if you get off at rue Monge it is then a shorter walk.

However to enjoy this part of Paris it is great to walk as there are many interesting streets to walk down and buildings to pass on the way.  Only for those unable to climb hills would it be a good idea to take a taxi.

Here is a suggested route for walking.

Outside the cathedral take the bridge directly to the south which is the pedestrian Pont au Double to cross the river.

Cross the bridge and go straight over past the park on your right but take the second turning to your left with the Hipppopotamus restaurant on your left.

You are now on rue Larange which is mixture of classy residential buildings with small shops and cafes at street level. While some outside seating at cafes is possible here it is less pleasant due to the traffic.

Continue on until you are on rue Monge and there is a threeway junction and you should turn a little to the right in order to get onto rue de la Montagne Sainte-Genevieve. There is a Caisse d'epargne bank on the corner and you should have this on your left as you continue.  Continue on past many parked bikes, reminding us of how popular cycling is in the city, but now going uphill.

The roads here are much smaller and include many small shops for local residents, such as the Boucherie de la Montagne Sainte Genevieve, but opposite this is the Hotel du Commerce which reflects the support for tourists in the city as well.

Continue upwards past the junction with rue des Ecoles and you come to the old Paris Polytechnic buildings on your left, and should continue past them to rue Descartes..

From there just continue onwards, past rue Clovis, and another junction and you have reached the northern end of our street.
